Has it really been a month already? Has it been a month since
our sweet Sarah was placed into our arms for the very first
time? Has it been a month since we first heard her cry, saw her
smile and started our forever journey with her? Oh what a month
it has been!
Sarah is a wonder to us all. She has adapted, with relative
ease, to having five lively siblings and to a home that is, more
often than not, filled with noise, commotion, friends and our
dog barking a greeting to each and every visitor :) The first
week or so home was really rough with the time change for her.
She would go to sleep in my arms and we would lay her down in
the crib we had placed in our room. Well, every time she made a
peep, I would think she was waking up. And then, wake up she
did. For three and four hours at a time. We were both delirious
with fatigue and still trying to get everyone accustomed to a
new “routine” (whatever that was). But with a crib location
change and a little time, we are all better now. Sarah is
sleeping well at night and so are we. Mandi, who overall has
done very well, has had moments where she has desperately needed
to be assured and reassured of her place in our hearts. The
second week saw the worst of her tantrums and she is on the
upswing now. She has been so tender to Sarah and tries to
“mother” her, which of course is not something Sarah loves all
the time. Each of the boys has been genuine and effusive in
their acceptance and love for their new sister. We prayed
mightily for this and feel so blessed that they have responded
so well.
Some things actually seem easier now that we are home. Not
trying to be super human, to just be a kind and attentive
mother/father has eased some of the stress that six children can
bring. We just roll with it (well, for the most part) when the
chaos and intensity ramps up and just try to bring it back to a
dull roar. There is so much joy and fun to be had with these six
precious children. How much we LOVE each of them!!!! We had the
privilege to take Sarah to the temple and to give her a blessing
at church. She looked so beautiful, our precious treasure. Each
of the girls in our extended families had on Chinese empress
dresses that all matched and Sarah wore a white one. The boys
wore Chinese ties. What a fabulous site to behold! Sarah is so
blessed to be surrounded with love. And we are so blessed to
have her to love. We also celebrated Mandi’s second Gotcha Day
with our dear friends, the Mills family. How blessed we are to
have them so close to us and to be able to have Hannah and Mandi
together on such a treasured day.
Sarah is slated to have her cardio cath lab/echocardiogram done
on October 9th at St.Luke’s Children’s Hospital here in Boise.
We will not know exact plans for repair during the surgery until
after her cath lab is performed. Her cardiologist and the
pediatric surgeon will use the time in between to plan her
finite surgical details. We will update you during that time.
Until then……………… |
