“Love is
the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? and where do we go?
And how come we're so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing its always better when we're together”
“Better Together” Lyrics by Jack Johnson
Our timeline:
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the adoption process,
it is a long journey. Our journey began in March of 2006 when we
signed and sent our contract to Living Hope Adoption Agency. The
initial paper work took several months to complete. Our DTC
(Dossier to China) date is September 19, 2006 and our LID
(Log-in-date) is October 20, 2006. We officially began our wait
for Sophia on 10/20/06.
Here are some of the documents we collected for our Dossier:
• Petition letter to adopt Sophia
• Home study report
• Birth certificates
• Marriage License
• Divorce decree
• Medical forms
• Letters from doctors
• Letters from our employers
• Financial statement
• Police clearance
• Child abuse clearance
• Fingerprints
• Letters of reference
• I-600 form (The form from the U.S. Government approving us to
adopt a foreign orphan.)
All of the documents had to be notorized, state sealed in the
state the document originated from, and finally authenticated at
the Chinese Consulate in Philadelphia before being sent to
China. Our home study had to be updated in July of 2007. We had
to update our medical forms, child abuse clearance forms, police
clearance forms, employment letters and be re-fingerprinted in
Philadelphia at the Homeland Security Office. On December 19,
2007 our paperwork made it out of the review room in China. This
is the same day that we received the news that we could review
