Hi Everyone!

I know we are long overdue for an update on Sophia, but I was waiting until we had all of her tests completed and some information to share with everyone. It has been a busy five weeks since we came home!

Sophia has adjusted nicely to her new family! It is hard to believe that it was only seven weeks ago that we met Sophia for the first time. She was so scared when they handed her to us and now she is the happiest little girl in the world! She has grown and changed so much since we first met her. She has learned so much in such a short amount of time. It is amazing what she has been able to accomplish.

Sophia's receptive language is great. She understands just about everything we say to her. She points to everything around her asking us to name it for her! Sophia loves to imitate everything we do. She will try to brush her hair and teeth just like we do! She also loves to help me take care of Graham. She will get the diapers and wipes for me. She like to hold his bottle while I feed him too! She is a great big sister and Graham loves having her as his big sister! She has learned how to pucker her lips and give us kisses. She likes to ride her little bike and play peek-a-boo with us. She can say several words. Her favorite words are Momma, hello (hellwo), Daddy (ah ah), Rocky (ah e), Wingo (it o), Graham (am). She discovered the phone and loves to pretend to talk on it. She figured out how to unroll the toilet paper all by herself. It was a good thing Mommy was right there when she learned how to do that!! She enjoys playing with her little kitchen set too! It is a big hit! She also loves CHOCOLATE (just like her Daddy)! Mommy often finds Daddy giving her chocolate at night before bed!!! She had become even more of a "Daddy's Little Girl"! Sophia's two very favorite things are Daddy and chocolate pudding! She squeals with delight at the sight of both Daddy and chocolate pudding! It is so heartwarming to she how her relationship with her Daddy has blossomed! She is so precious and we are so lucky to have her as our daughter.

Sophia's sleeping has improved greatly. When we first got home she would not sleep in her crib. If we put her in her crib she would just scream. It was so hard to see her so upset! She slept the first few weeks on top of me until she finally would sleep next to me in our bed with a hand on top of me all night. We have now moved her into her toddler bed. Erik took off the crib side and put on her toddler rail. We taught her how to crawl out of her toddler bed if she needed to get to us! She can now put herself to sleep in her toddler bed after a lot of TLC from her Daddy and Mommy! We are hoping that after all of her surgeries this summer that we can transition her into her own big girl room!! Sophia had her first doctor's appointment with Dr. Schied on April 4th! She did great! She is having all of her immunizations redone because the immunizations in China are not as strong as the immunizations here. We just want to be sure she is fully immunized. She was a real trooper! We were referred to A.I. DuPont Hospital by our pediatrician. We have made many trips to the A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital since we have been home. Sophia will need to have her anus reconstructed.

Unfortunately, the surgery done in China was not done correctly. We are very happy to have Dr. Vinocur as our surgeon! He is so kind and caring! He wanted Sophia to have some other tests to rule out any other problems that could result from her imperforated anus. She had a pelvic and renal ultrasound and both were normal. She also had an EKG to rule out any heart problems. That was also normal. She had an MRI done also to see if her spinal cord was tethered. We have not received the results of that test yet. If she does have a tethered spinal cord, she will have surgery to repair that as well.

She will have three procedures to correct her imperforated anus. Her first procedure is scheduled for June 12th! We meet with the cleft lip/palate team this Thursday!

Sophia's amazing journey has just begun! We are so glad that God placed this little girl into our family! We know that everyone always says that their adopted child is the perfect child for their family, but it is true. Sophia is the daughter we waited for so long! She is the perfect little girl for our family! We just can't imagine our life without her!

Having a ball at home!
