May Update

Still waiting . . .

Dear Family & Friends,

This website has been created for you to follow along on our journey to China to adopt our new daughter, Mylee Ava. As many of you know, this has been a long journey thus far. Here’s our story-

Our journey begins on October 16, 1999, the day Jojo and I were married. We have always known that we wanted to have children and began “trying” right away. After a miscarriage and several years of minor fertility treatments, we came to a point where we had to decide on how we would proceed with building our family. We had discussed adoption early in our relationship and knew that it was something that we wanted to explore after having a biological child. Since that didn’t seem to be happening as quickly as we would have liked (you know how impatient we are- when we want something, we want it now!), we started looking into adopting a child. With the experiences that we have gone through in trying to adopt Mia (see About Mia link) we knew that the issues that can sometimes occur with domestic adoptions were not for us. We attended an orientation at our adoption agency and were convinced that this was where we needed to be. After learning more about the beautiful little girls in China needing a home, we submitted our application on March 31, 2005 and began what’s known in the adoption community as the “paperchase.” Here are some of the important dates in our process . . .

March 5, 2005 Attended orientation at Heartsent International Adoption Agency
March 31, 2005 Submitted application to adopt
April 13, 2005 Mailed I600A
May 6, 2005 Completed Homestudy
July 15, 2005 We’re DTC! Our dossier was sent to China
July 28, 2005 LID Our dossier was logged in at the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA)

We are now in the “waiting for referral” stage. At the beginning of this process, we were told that after submitting our dossier to the CCAA it would then take 6 or 7 months to get a referral. Well as luck would have it, the process of matching the children with their families has slowed down considerably. The 6-month date has come and gone and we’re now hoping that we will get our referral by the end of July or August and travel 4 to 6 weeks later. We will be updating this site monthly as we continue to wait.
