DAY THREE WITH OUR DAUGHTER

Hi all from Guangzhou! Day three and daddy is writing today because of lessons 8 and 9, you will understand from the below posting:).

Since we had the morning free and did not have to be up so early, we thought we would be good parents and let Mei-Li sleep in until 0830. After a smooth wake up with a bottle already prepped, we dressed Mei-Li and went down to breakfast. We had breakfast and went back to the room to play with blocks. Mei-Li has figured out that her hand will fit into one of the holes. However, she stuck her hand into one of the holes and could not pull it out because she has hold of one of the blocks in the box. Too funny! Like a dog with a stick trying to get through a doorway:).

Like I stated above, we woke her up late this morning, which seemed like a good idea at the time but we paid for it later today, then after playing with blocks, we put her down late for her nap and had to wake her up early because of our trip to the police station, mistake number two today. She is defiantly a Procaccio and likes her sleep!

(8) Don’t wake a Procaccio from a deep sleep and expect them to be a happy camper!

After a brief crying spell and some yogurt in her belly, she calmed down and was prepped for the trip. She was so good on the way there, while we were getting documents for her Chinese passport and the way back from the police station. In fact, she started to say and sing “mommy, mommy, mommy” over and over on the way back. So mommy is a happy camper! This also means that she can hear and talk. So mommy and daddy are happy!

Back at the hotel we went around the corner to Starbucks. Yes, Starbucks in China. So this means we will never be a war with China. No country with a McDonald's or Starbucks has ever attacked America. That is a fact…I checked the Internet:). You will see a picture of Naomi in the pictures. that was taken at Starbucks. Please keep this little one in your prayers.

Back in the room is was more playing until it was time for bed, thus leading to lesson number nine:

(9) Don’t let the baby “sleep-in” because at night she will not be tired and want to stay up and she WILL pitch a fit.

She did not want to go to sleep. As soon as we put her into the bed, she started to cry. She was not ready to go to sleep. So, Joy carried her around the room while she cried. Mei-Li battled to get down and battled to stay awake. Joy was not giving in, Mei-Li was going to sleep tonight, Joy will see to it. This was now a battle of the wills. Joy was not giving in and neither was Mei-Li. The crocodile tears and occasional upticks in decibels lasted a good hour and a half. Joy would not give in, even when daddy said let her down and let her play. Finally, the decibels died down and Joy put her in bed, she finally fell asleep…yea! However, this lead to the final lesson today and this one is for daddy only:

(10) Now I have TWO stubborn girls, all hope is lost for me:).

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.” Psalm 68.5-6 (NIV)
