In China
All Days  |  Previous Day  |  Next Day

We are in Guangzhou living the “suite” life in our VERY air-conditioned 2-room suite! Woohoo!! We may move in…..

Yesterday was a long day…night. We of course hit the breakfast bar and said good bye, to our friend Helen. She asked when we were coming back….ummm…..

We decided to walk to MacDonalds at lunchtime since we were not sure when our next chance to eat would be. That was interesting. It was the first time EmmeClaire and I had really done much “walking” through the streets of the city. You learn quickly in China to MOVE when you are walking. So many people, so many cars, so many “scooters” you had better go or….

Once back we got packed up and headed downstairs to wait for Cindy. We had one last important stop before getting on the plane, to get the kid’s passports. We went to a government building in a new section of the city. Cindy said the whole area had been built in the last 3 years. HUGE apartment buildings were all over this area and nice stores. It could have easily been a new suburb of any US city. We had to wait outside the fence of a “government building” for the passports. One of the officials brought the passports down, handed it through the gate, and we headed to the airport.

Cindy helped us through security and then the waiting began. Here comes the good news, bad news….Good news…THERE WAS A BOOK STORE! Guess who got some new books??!! Yeah….so they are mostly in Chinese but still….let the book buying begin…oh who am I kidding, I started buying her books YEARS ago! And since one of our favorite books from home met with disaster involving a bottle explosion… Bad news….delayed over an hour. The problem is when you do not understand the language being spoken…we had no idea why it is delayed or when we were going to be leaving.

We were finally let on the plane but our waiting was not over. The flight attendants brought dinner while we sat in the fairly un-air-conditioned plane. It was a pretty FULL flight and a very small plane. Right in the middle of passing out the dinners, the plane started moving and we were up…. EmmeClaire must have been hungry since she ate all 3 trays worth of rice and vegetables. And apparently all that helping EmmeClaire learn to move paid off….she barely sat still the entire flight….except to eat! I tried to convince her to sleep…nah why bother to sleep when you can move all over. The flight was about 2 hours….15 hours next week…ohhhhh boy.

It was so nice to be reunited with all the other families and Uncle Zhou. There was an issue with another family’s stroller so we left the airport around 11 pm. Not sure how long the ride to the island was because EmmeClaire and I fell asleep for some of it UNTIL she decided to get the other kids started on a rendition of CRYING….talk about the babies on the bus going wah wah wah….the parents were going wah wah wah too.

Zhou had managed to swing us all suites, not sure how but not asking questions, so we now have 2 room, 2 bath suite. AHHHH! And the AC…..beautiful. After all that excitement of her first plane ride, EmmeClaire wanted to party….until well after midnight. She is like her brother…the later it gets, the more tired she gets, the sillier she gets….Not sure WHEN she fell asleep because I fell asleep first with her on the bed.

This morning is the medical exam. After that we have some….what could it be??....paperwork to do!! I am anxious to see the “island” as we have heard it is so nice and relaxed. Oh and…..shopping! Baby needs a new pair of SQUEAKY shoes J But will have to see as someone may be a little tired today after her big night of partying.

Not much else to report…another day closer to being home with Adam! A special good luck to EmmeClaire’s Uncle Mike, and all the riders participating in Pelotonia back home….those in the C-bus area knew well this bike “tour” of varying lengths each August to raise money for the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University! It is quite an accomplishment and this will be year 3 for him.

Adam: We have missed FaceTime with you the last few days! We hope you are being good and enjoying camp! We can’t wait to see you next week! Have fun tomorrow/today chasing Uncle Mike on his bike!!

Happy girl!
