First day in
Guangzhou was kicked off with the breakfast bar! And on
the breakfast bar there are the usual, mutton skew, dim
sum, etc – your average Hampton Inn continental breakfast
and….CREAM PUFFS! Not wanting to offend anyone, I put away
quite a few of those….the cream puffs that is – want to be
very clear about that.
Next we had to walk to get pictures taken for the kids’
visas. Along the way….there was window shopping to be
done. Oh my! Dear Mom: In china, please send money! XOXO,
Your Favorite Daughter. We have to go back and check some
of the places out. I have a mental list that have been
adding to over the days here in China….honestly, the last
6 years, so we will definitely be coming home “lighter”
than we came…at least in the wallet! The visa picture was
relatively painless though you would not know if based on
the last little one in blue dress….man she can turn on the
tears when she wants…she may be the smallest but her voice
is mighty!! J
Next we headed into the “city” for the medical exam. I
remember doing this with Adam - It was pretty quick –
painless – quiet….well this was quicker than things I have
heard – it can take hours if there are a lot of kids – but
it was pretty unnerving. Imagine taking your newborn to
the dr. for the first time (because there is little told
to you at the “hospital”) and then having no idea what
they are saying – to you, to the kid, to each other. We
are still a little unsure. All the kids were pretty pooped
after this experience – and so were the parents.
EmmeClaire was spent. Dad ordered her noodles and got her
to eat some before we decided to get her to take a nap. It
takes a while to get her to sleep now – she wants to play
– and the books usually get thrown across the room. I
forget how it is to have a baby/kid that has no clue what
a book is or what to do with it. I am use to the one that
stacks books in front of me and says, “Read me a book!” I
honestly do not think she ever saw a book until 5 days
ago. For obvious reasons the kids just do not get books
read to them but yet another sad reality of orphanage
life. Anyone has ideas on how to get that changed…..I am
on board. I need a new project!!
Jim went to the “paperwork filling out session” this
afternoon as EmmeClaire slept. We have the distinct honor
of having waited the longest of anyone in our travel
group. We even have some different paperwork than every
one else. We are special!
After paperwork we headed to the famous Lucy’s restaurant
with some other families. I have read about this
restaurant on other blogs/websites. Kind of funny to be
actually going to some of the places and seeing some of
the places I have read about over the last 6 years. On the
walk home we stopped at the 7 Eleven to get some drinks
and got a little thing of Haagen Dazs chocolate ice cream.
I can not ever remember having this ice cream before and
either I am missing food even more than I thought or it
really IS that good. Yum!
I think the sleepless nights are starting to catch up with
me and I need to get my strength up for some shopping
tomorrow AM, so I am off to bed.
Adam: Hope you are having a good day! We miss you very
much! We were given something tonight from a nice woman
that runs a store here on the island. We will make sure we
pack it carefully in our bag to bring home to you! Have a
good day! XOXOX - Mom |
