In China
All Days  |  Previous Next Day

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

This morning we got to FaceTime with everyone at home. Erica and Annie were very excited to "meet" their new sister. I think Nicole was excited, too!

At two o'clock this afternoon was the official Adoption Day appointment. Wan Qiu Qi is now officially Nicole Qiuqi Goodrum! Our guide explained to her that today we had to sign some papers. It was at the same Civil Affairs office where we first met her yesterday. She seemed quiet and reserved. While we waited, she worked on her sticker book. When the orphanage officials came in (they had to sign papers, too), they spoke to her, but she barely looked at them. When they finished and were leaving, they said "bye" to her. Then, she looked up and said "bye". She seemed a little reserved while at the Civil Affairs office waiting for our turn. But as soon as everything was signed and she put her fingerprint on the paperwork, she became all smiles and started giggling! You could tell she understood what had happened! This afternoon and evening, she has shown us her silly side! She seems happier and more relaxed with us.

We spent some time this morning practicing some English. She is learning colors and body parts. She's very smart and seems eager to learn. We also painted her fingernails a lovely shade of purple.

We have a prayer request for Nicole. We knew from her file that she had some cavities. Well, it is much worse than a few cavities. Most of her teeth are rotten. Some have broken and her gums bleed when we brush her teeth, even very gently. Those on the home front will be trying to get an appointment set up with Texas Children's Hospital for shortly after we return. We will have to see the doctors at the International Adoption Clinic and hopefully, a dentist on the same day. TCH will arrange to have an interpreter at the appointment.

Tomorrow, Allison will be going with our guide to the finding spot. We want pictures for Nicole when she is older. The way China is booming, there is no guarantee that the building will be there in the future. Allison will be gone all day since it is 4 hours away. Hopefully, I can keep Nicole busy for that long!
