GOTCHA DAY!
When you wake up at 1:45am and gotcha time is 2:00pm...It's a
long wait.
It's warm here in Chongqing. Low 70's with Houston humidity.
That's short sleeve and sandals weather. But not here. The
locals are bundled up in jackets and coats. They occasionally
mop the sweat from their foreheads, but do not take the jackets
off.
All that to say that our hotel room is warm and not equipped
with a ceiling fan. After 2 sleepless warm nights, we asked for
a fan. Got a 3 speed stand fan! So there will be some sleeping
in this room tonight! Yay!
Now to the most important part of our day - she's here with us!
She came in like a big girl - maybe a little shy, but a big girl
nonetheless. She had all new clothes and shoes, plus a new
backpack with some crafts and stuff.
The head nanny of the Wanzhou SWI went to get her from her
foster home in Zhengzhou. She spent 2 days there with her before
bringing her back to Chongqing. The nanny told us that on the
plane here, she proudly told everyone around her that her mama
is in the United States!
They told us she is very independent when it comes to self-care
such as bathing and the like.
When she arrived, she gave me a hug! She smiled shyly and looked
at the things we brought her. One of those things a was a big
Disney Princess sticker book. She looked at it and knew exactly
what to do with it. She is quite familiar with Disney
Princesses!
When we came back to the hotel after finishing at the Civil
Affairs office, we came back to the room for a while. She looked
through her backpack and colored and did crafts for a while. She
is very neat and cleans up after herself! While cutting paper,
she would throw away any scraps and made sure to put away the
first craft before starting a new one.
After about an hour, we decided to go out for dinner at KFC. You
can't go wrong with chicken nuggets and French fries! Then
Haagen-Dazs for dessert! After dinner, we went to the store for
snacks and water. As we walked through the store, Nicole held my
and hand and hummed a little. She picked out 2 snacks - some
shoestring potato chips and mini Oreos.
We ended the night with watching Cinderella and eating snacks
and playing Angry Birds! I feel so blessed to be mama to this
girl!
Tomorrow we go back to the Civil Affairs office to finish off
the paperwork and make her legally ours!!
While I know there is some healing to do in my girl's heart, she
has been very brave and happy today! Thank you so much for your
prayers! The Lord is good! |
