This morning, we went for Nicole's second sputum test. This one
went much faster since she knew what to expect. While we were
there, Miko got the results from Monday's test. It was negative
for TB! Yay! To God be the glory!
While we waited for Miko, we could see Nicole's mood go
downhill. She had a snack after the test (she is not allowed to
eat before the test), but still seemed unhappy. She didn't want
us to sit next to her, talk to her, or take her picture. We took
a cab back to the hotel and went to breakfast. Nicole was very
reluctant to go to breakfast, and said she didn't want anything
(for the record, breakfasts in China are amazing! You can get
anything you can imagine and then some!). She just flopped
across the bench with a very pouty face. Allison went to get
some food, then I got mine. By the time I got back, Nicole had
decided that she was hungry. So, Allison took her and got some
fruit. She perked up a little. We were wondering if she's mad at
us over the testing. Does she think it's our fault? We have
since had Miko explain that it is not our choice that she has to
do the sputum tests, but a rule by the US government before she
can immigrate. After we got back to the room, she pulled out her
snacks and was back to her usual happy self! And yes, most of
her meals are followed by a snack!
After breakfast, we went on an adventure. We took a cab to the
Chimelong Safari Park. Almost seven years ago, we went to this
park when we got Erica. At that time, it was June and so very
hot! But, today was cool and overcast. We saw the pandas, and
watched an elephant show. There were some white tigers and all
kinds of animals. It is a beautiful park and well worth the
effort to go see it!
Nicole enjoyed looking at the map of the park and telling us
what she wanted to see. Her top choices were pandas, dinosaurs
(obviously not real), snakes (Mom and she need to have a talk
about snakes), and the peacock we didn't get a chance to see at
the zoo yesterday. She was so excited to see the peacock until
it screeched at her and scared her! She thought it was the
funniest thing! When asked what her favorite animal was, she
told us pandas!
This evening we went on a Pearl River Cruise with some of the
families in our group. It was good to see Nicole interact with
the other kids. It was a lot of fun! You get to see the city lit
up while you eat dinner. All of the food was Chinese, of course.
Among other things, Nicole chose duck feet from the buffet. She
ate it like a champ! I was very impressed at her ability to get
meat off of a duck foot! After dinner, there was a magic show
which she really enjoyed!
Tomorrow we have her last sputum test and then we will go to
Shamian Island for some shopping! |
