GREETINGS FROM GUANGZHOU!

I have to start out this post by saying Happy Referral Anniversary to Ruby Mei! We will never forget that wonderful phone call three years ago! Ruby, we are so thankful for you! You have brought us so much joy! We are grateful that God chose you to be our daughter! We will celebrate when we get home! We love you!

I promise one of these days before we leave China I will make the time to really share our observations about the personality of Sienna Grace. There are many special layers and slowly she is revealing them to us. Today by far has been one of the most rewarding. I think we all just needed to get out of Changsha!

We started our day out like we do every morning, slowly. So far Sienna is wakes up quietly and evaluates her surroundings. Then, Ainsley finds something to draw her out, and soon we are seeing smiles and hearing her laugh. After breakfast we met our group to visit a local Embroidery factory and museum. The Hunan Province is known for Embroidery. The creations we saw today were so beautiful!

We barely made it to the airport for our flight to Guangzhou. The weather and our bus driver who went the wrong way, added to the excitement of getting there. Thanks to our guide, and her connections, China Southern held our flight! As we expected, Sienna was a rock star traveler! Just like her little sister three years ago! She did amazing on the buses and the flight that we had to race to catch. She seems to go with the flow when we have places to go, and when waiting is involved. On the other hand she is like a new toddler just discovering things like the phone in the room, the water in the tub, etc. We have to stop and remember that this is all new to her! She is a very busy girl! Unfortunately, Sienna is a bit aggressive too. She is a survivor! So, she hears me saying a lot, “Be Gentle” Tung Tung. Well, on the flight tonight, I think I heard her say, “gentle.” Other than bye this is her first English word. Too funny!

But the biggest break through came in the lobby of our hotel in GZ. She gave Jeff the big “high 5” in the lobby while we were waiting to check in. Ever since Monday she has been a little standoffish with her new Daddy. We think she is still mad at him for being the one who got to restrain her at the Civil Affairs office. She is warming up, and it is obvious she wants to love us. She may even admit soon she likes this new deal!

My favorite Sienna story so far came tonight while I was unpacking her clothes and showing her what I brought for Guangzhou. She is very animated when she is excited, so this fashion show was met with lots of Ooh’s and Aahs.. I stacked everything on a chair while I was working on another pile. I turned around and she had put on three pairs of pants over her PJ’s! Then she had me help her with 2 more tops and a dress over her nightgown! It was hilarious. Once in layers, always in layers I guess!

She stayed in her fashion creation until bedtime! It was so fun to see her being silly and feeling comfortable with us! There was another first as she sat on the floor with the stacking cups we brought and she played for a long time independently. We really haven’t seen her engage in many of the toys we brought for more than a few minutes. So this was great to see!

She is now sound asleep on her new “couch” at our hotel. It works out great because she is comfortable there, and our room is really tight for a rollaway!

Our strong willed girl has a very big morning ahead. Please pray for Sienna.
It is the medical exam, and we expect it may be another difficult hurdle. They now require children going to the US to undergo a TB test and any vaccines they are not current on. We don’t know how many this is, but considering where she has been we aren’t super excited about this part of her journey. We made such great strides today, and we pray that she doesn’t step back again.

OK – I seriously need sleep, so I will sign off tonight! We are so thankful to be in Guangzhou! Thank you for your prayers. God is faithfully with us on this journey. It has been emotional and tiring, but we see His handprints everywhere we go!

Blessings,
Diana

P.S: I am going to miss my big picture window in our hotel room. I have had so much fun taking Sienna’s picture there. Praying for some sunshine and some fun outdoor pics.. However, the forecast will need to change for that to happen!
