Katie’s Chinese name is
Dong Guo Guo Birthday: December 14, 2005
Yangdong SWI Guangdong Province
Based on the characters that make up her name, here's what we
know:
Dong 东 (pronounced with a short "u") means
"east" or "winter" and is a common surname in this particular
region of China. All of the babies from the Yangdong SWI share
this surname).
Guo 果 (pronounced "gwa") means "fruit/result". Some people have
suggested that "fruit" in this case might be strawberries or
peaches, however, based on the word "result," maybe “fruit” is
more likely ‘the culmination, the reward at the end of a
process’. Katie is definitely our reward at the end of this
adoption journey. The culmination of years of praying and a 13+
month "paper pregnancy.”
Soon, she will be renamed Katharine Grace, and we will call her
Katie. |

"Katharine" means "pure." We think it's a beautiful name for a
beautiful child. The non-traditional spelling is to give her her
own unique identity as she will share her name with two lovely
ladies in our family.
"Grace" - where would we be without God's grace? Also, the first
letter, "G", will represent her given name, Guo Guo.
"Katie" has been my favorite girls name since I was a child
myself. It's also a nod to my maiden name (which included the
name "kate") and which I kept as my middle name when I got
married.
