This morning, we went to the Chen Clan Academy, also called the
Cantonese Folk Art Museum. We ordered Nicole's name stamp and
got her name painted on a scroll. We watched a group of boys in
traditional costumes filming a video of some historical scene.
Nicole loved watching them. She giggled and giggled! This museum
was once home to the wealthy Chen family and was built over 100
years ago. It's a beautiful museum now with traditional Chinese
architecture and furniture.
While we were out this morning, we went shopping at the Liwan
Plaza. We were through with our shopping and went ahead to our
group meeting spot. As we waited for the rest of our group, a
Chinese grandmother was walking slowly by. She stopped to smile
at Nicole and said something to her. She smiled at me and
motioned at Nicole. I told her I was "Mama" and pointed at
Nicole. She smiled and nodded her approval. She smiled and said
something to Nicole and walked on. That may not sound very
important. "So what! An old lady smiled at your kid!" In our
experience, it doesn't happen too often. Usually, we get curious
stares. Sometimes disapproving stares.
This evening, we decided to try out The Italian Restaurant down
the street from our hotel. It's really good! They also have some
Mexican food on the menu. So, Allison had Mexican food at The
Italian Restaurant in Guangzhou, China.
As we were walking back to the hotel, we had to cross the
street. Crossing the street in China is always an adventure!
There are YouTubes about it! Well, as we were crossing, I said,
"Wait a minute!" Nicole often repeats what we say, but she
evidently heard me wrong. She said, "Amen!" She repeated "Amen!"
several times as we crossed. I think she may be right!
Our wonderful guide, Miko, came to our room to explain to Nicole
about her medical tests. Nicole listened carefully and then we
watched a YouTube that Neal sent us on how to cough up phlegm
(who knew!). Miko translated and Nicole listened and giggled,
but we think she understands what is expected of her. Our test
is at 8am (China time) and 7pm Sunday (Central US). Then we
repeat the same test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please pray that
she can produce the sputum they want and that the test results
are negative for TB!
I just want to say thank you to all who have been praying for us
on this adventure! Your prayers and kind words are a balm for
the soul! God is so good to us and I am humbled! |
