Our Prayers Have Been Answered!
We have a son! He was born May 8th, 2009 and currently resides
at the Social Welfare Institute of XuZhou City in Jiangsu
province. He was brought to the welfare institute by the Jiahe
Police Station on May 8th, 2009. The SWI named him. Jiang is
taken according to the Family Name Book, given to all children
taken in 2009. Zhi connotes the hope that he grows to be a
goal-oriented person who pursues his dream. Qi is a common name.
When he was first there, he slept over 20 hours a day. When he
was hungry, thirsty or had wet diaper, he cried loud. After he
ate full, he fell asleep. He had good appetite and drank 120ml
milk each time. When he lied on the bed awake, he looked at the
toys around or put his hands into his mouth, in relaxation.
Now when you get close to him, he will follow visually as you
walk. He smiles when being stimulated. When pulling him to sit
up, he can hold his head and sit up. He likes it that the
caretaker helps him do exercise. When he sees the caretakers
passing by with the bottle in hands, he will cry if you don’t
feed him. He has been diagnosed with a hearing impairment.
We have been blessed to learn that he is in a loving orphanage
and he continues to develop. We love him already and we can't
wait to bring him home!
One More Starfish
A vacationing businessman was walking along a beach when he saw
a young boy. Along the shore were many starfish that had been
washed up by the tide and were sure to die before the tide
returned. The boy was walking slowing along the shore and
occasionally reached down and tossed the beached starfish back
into the ocean. The businessman, hoping to teach the boy a
little lesson in common sense, walked up to the boy and said, “I
have been watching what you are doing son. You have a good
heart, and I know you mean well, but do you realize how many
beaches there are around here and how many starfish are dying on
every beach every day. Surely such an industrious and kind
hearted boy such as yourself could find something better to do
with your time. Do you really think that what you are doing is
going to make a difference?” The boy looked up at the man, and
then he looked down at a starfish by his feet. He picked up the
starfish, and as he gently tossed it back into the ocean, he
said, “it makes a difference to that one.” |

June 8, 2010 - - An Update!
We have been happy to learn that Qwinn is in very
loving hands. He has aunties and friends that we have seen
in many pictures, videos and stories from visiting
families. We know that he is scooting around, and pulling
up to stand, he is very visually observant and the nannies
love him very much. In the last 2 months he has enjoyed
his 1st birthday party, and a holiday party (called
Children's Day), with cake and goodies. He now has 8
teeth, lots of hair and is 22 pounds! We can't wait to
travel, and will likely visit the orphanage to thank all
his thoughtful caregivers in person!
