Today was a great day! We went on a tour of Hutong, an ancient historical district of Beijing. We first went way up in a drum tower (up many, many steep steps) and saw a drum show that was amazing. Then, we went on a rickshaw ride (buggy behind a bicycle) around the historical Hutong district. We were able to see neighborhoods and even went into a family’s house and drank tea with the mother of the family. She allowed us to tour her house—so, so much different than anything in America. She gave us all a piece of candy and Kaden was so excited to eat his before anyone else. He put it in his mouth, chewed it for a little bit (with a not so happy face) and then came over to me and quietly said “please take it, mommy.” The lady wasn’t looking, so I let him spit it into my hand. He then turned to her with a big smile and said “That was really good.” The other 2 couples we were with got a huge kick out of that! The lady then offered him 5 more pieces, and he said “no thank you, I’m really full.” I guess he understands the concept of hurting people’s feelings more than we realized….

After touring the neighborhoods, we were able to visit a kindergarten. This was the best part of all! The children were all 4 years old and were eating lunch when we arrived. They were very excited and interested in us—especially Kaden. One of the ladies in our group had brought along some Disney stickers to hand out to the children. They were all so well behaved and so, so cute!!!!! The school was very nice, and according to our guide, it is very expensive to send your children there.

Tonight we are going to eat with some new friends of ours who live here in Beijing. We are looking forward to that, but afraid we might get back too late so we will have to update about that tomorrow.

Tomorrow we tour the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and Tian en men Square. We are having a wonderful time!!

Only 2 1/2 more days until we get our little sweetie!! We are so excited!!!
