Sorry for the delay in posting an update on how Lexi is doing. We’ve been a bit busy this past month or so. In mid-January, Rob got a phone call from a company that wanted him to begin working for them on February 9 in Washington DC. My initial reaction was, “No way! Zoe needs to finish preschool and then we can go.” Apparently, the start date was a deal breaker though, and it is an opportunity we’d be crazy to pass on. So, over the next three weeks, we travelled to DC to find a house (Lexi went with us while Zoe had a three day sleepover with a dear friend), we packed all of our worldly belongings, moved, then unpacked and settled in. Can you say WHIRLWIND!?! It was crazy how fast everything happened.

So now, I am posting from our new home in the DC area. It’s a darling place in a lovely neighborhood. There is a large Asian population here and I just love how Zoe points out each time she notices someone that looks Chinese like her. She notices this with such pride and the community has been very accepting of our girls thus far. Last week she was telling the cashier at the grocery store some of the Chinese words she has learned. The cashier was so impressed that she gave Zoe a tangerine for fortune and good luck. That just made her day!

We had a warm spell where all the children in the neighborhood had the chance to play outside. We met some very nice families, and there is a little girl living next door that is just a couple of months older than Zoe. They have begun to forge a friendship which is just terrific.

The Sunday before Rob began work, we attended the Families with Children from China’s Chinese New Year celebration. It was awesome! Lexi’s favorite part was watching the lion dancers. The live drums were loud and the lion dancers were incredibly talented. Zoe even got to feed one of the lions a red envelope. She thought that was pretty cool! It was at that event that I met a group of women who meet every Friday for a play date. They call themselves “The Coolest Playgroup” and the name is quite fitting. They’re my kind of people. Zoe, Lexi, and I have begun to really look forward to those play dates each week.

With the move, there was a bit of regression from both girls. I am doing a lot of policing for the two of them. Zoe likes to press Lexi’s buttons, and Lexi likes to scream to get Zoe in trouble even if Z has done nothing wrong. I have to keep a close eye out so I know what has happened and respond appropriately. One of my new friends (a mother of four) told me to say repeatedly to myself, “It’s just a phase.” I hope she’s right. The bickering, aggression, and screaming can be quite wearing on my heart and soul. I really just want the girls to love each other and get along. That’s not too much to ask, is it?

So that is what is going on with us this month! I promise not to wait so long for my next post.

Surprise, we moved!
