Jia is fifteen months old and we’ve had her for four months!
She is officially a walker, buzzing from one place to the next.
She toddles around with her arms outstretched like a zombie. She
is much happier now that she has learned this skill and it’s a
huge relief to our backs!
She greets nearly everyone she sees with a soft, quiet “hi.” She
does this even if the person is standing a block away. We try to
explain that her greeting is likely not returned because the
person can’t hear her, but we don’t think this has registered
yet. She still says “hi” frequently when we are out shopping and
people are often taken aback by it. She loves it when they
respond with a cheerful “hi” too!
We think Jia has good vision. We will be out for walks and
she’ll get excited about a ball or bird or dog and we think,
“Hmmm, where is it? Maybe she’s just thinking about those
things.” Then indeed we’ll spot the item and it will be very far
away.
Jia was dressed as a ladybug for Halloween. We were surprised
that she understood the whole trick-or-treating thing! She loved
having people fawn all over her, deliberating over each piece of
candy (with us rooting for the types we wanted) and then
dropping it into her bag. If we tried to stop to chat with the
homeowner she would interrupt us with a loud “bye!” and a big
wave. If we continued talking, she kept doing it to make her
point that we needed to move on to the next house!
Jia still enjoys hugging cousin Han. He dressed up as a chicken
for Halloween and Jia thought he was especially huggable in his
costume.
Thankfully, Jia loves her hat and mittens. (This is especially
good as we live in Minnesota.) In fact, she frequently asks us
to put them on her so she can wear them around the house! It
cracks us up to see her toddling around in them.
Jia has apparently heard me call her dad by his name, Joe, many
times. She now walks around the house saying “doh doh doh.”
We’ll hear her in her crib at night saying “doh doh.” In
addition to mama and baba, she now sometimes refers to both of
us as “doh!”
She has started saying “no.” She says it in such a sad, pathetic
way that we fortunately think it’s cute. She’ll say it at odd
times. For example, if we place a block into a container and put
on the lid, it will always elicit a forlorn “noooo” from her.
We’re glad that she’s feeling comfortable enough to challenge us
more now! (Sort of.)
Jia has enjoyed playing in her pretend kitchen. She feeds
herself, us, her dolls and stuffed animals with spoons, forks
and bottles and then says “mmmm.” She also loves it when we sing
to her. Whenever the song ends she says “more,” forcing us to
sing it over and over again. She is fond of being swung upside
down like a pendulum too. This causes her to yell “more” as
well!
We have had such fun watching her explore the world. She is an
incredible little girl and we simply adore her. |
