Today was a much better day than yesterday. Zoe and Lexi both
got off to a late start, much to the chagrin of their
grandmother and cousins who had been trying to Skype for hours.
Sorry guys!
At breakfast, Zoe ate a couple of pieces of French toast before
falling back to sleep in her Daddy’s arms. Lexi, of course, ate
enough to feed a small army for a week. Z slept through Rob
handing her off to me, and through being carried upstairs in one
arm as I pushed Lexi in the stroller with the other. I’m getting
more adept at this mother of two by the day.
Upstairs, Zoe snoozed for another hour and seemed to wake up
refreshed. We spent the next hour or so bonding by playing with
toys on the bed. Zoe piled up the stacking cups and giggled as
Lexi knocked them down over and over again. We sang songs and
played airplane with little Lexi. She got a kick out of that and
so far her favorite song is “Shake the Sillies Out.” She just
laughs and laughs as I shake her back and forth!
We knew Zoe was feeling better when she asked for some cheese
crackers. So we fed her, and then decided to head out for a bit
of shopping. We got a pretty good deal on some matching Chinese
outfits for our family and a chop with Lexi’s name on it. Then
we hit our favorite store Jordan for a few small trinkets. After
that, we ate lunch at Lucy’s again where we sat outside and
enjoyed the beautiful day. It’s in the upper 70s.
Next, we headed back to our room to freshen up and then head out
on the bus. We stopped for a brief visit at the Sun Yat-sen
memorial then headed to the pearl market. I had been there on my
last trip so we opted to cross the street in order to shop at
the jade market. My mother would be proud! We paid no more than
half the asking price for anything we purchased. Not having an
excess of money to spend was a great motivator and I was able to
get some really special pieces for the girls to enjoy now and
something for when they are older. I was quite proud of myself
and my bartering skills. I even paid less than others in our
group for the same items. Go me!!! Rob has officially been fired
as the family barterer.
Now, we are back at the hotel room. Zoe and Lexi are playing
together on the floor. Zoe keeps singing the song, “Mommy Always
Comes Back” to Lexi because she wants her to learn that it is
okay when I leave to do things because I will always return.
She’s such a sweet and concerned older sister!
I think I have mentioned this before, but I feel it warrants
mentioning again. One of my favorite parts about becoming a
mother of two is watching the relationship blossom between Zoe
and her Daddy. As Lexi leans on me for all her physical and
emotional needs, rather than being sad about this, Zoe is
turning to her Daddy. In fact, when Daddy was heading out the
door to exchange money, order pizza, and confirm our return
flight home, Zoe exclaimed, “I want to have Daddy-Daughter
time!” Rob’s eyes just lit up and he smiled as he told her that
was a terrific idea.
So tonight we will wind up our day with noodles and a bottle for
Lexi, pizza for the rest of us, bathtime, and lots of snuggling.
It’s been another wonderful day for our family of four! |
