GOTCHA!!

What a glorious day!! We left Hong Kong this morning around 11 and flew to Nanchang. After we got to the hotel, we had a meeting with our guide and then it was time to wait for the babies. We walked downstairs to see if the babies had come and within a minute we heard an elevator door open and some of the babies were crying. We all lost control of our emotions. It was an amazing site! However, I must confess that none of us could tell which one of the babies was Sarah Joy. They all were bundled up with 5-6 layers of clothing. Some had on hats and some did not. As soon as our guide walked into the room and realized that the babies were there, she had us go to the conference room to wait for our name to be called. I think we were 4th to be called. As soon as they called the couple in front of us, I spotted Sarah Joy in the arms of a Chinese woman standing at the door. She was wearing at least 5 layers and a yellow hat. She was the most beautiful site. I was just overwhelmed with a sense of the presence of God. There was not a dry eye in the conference room. It was an experience I will never forget! She did cry when we took her. Actually, Mike got his hands on her first. I just wanted to hold her so close to me and never let go….and that might be the case, since she only wants me now.

As soon as we were excused from the conference room, one of the Chinese women (orphanage director?) told our guide to tell me that Sarah Joy’s foster mother had put a note inside her clothing. After we got back to the room, we started taking all of those layers off and finally found the note. Our guide interpreted it to us and said that the family gave us their address and told how much they loved Sarah Joy. What a wonderful treasure for her! We also discovered that our sweet baby girl was hungry. She ate 2 bowls of rice cereal and drank her bottle. A little later, we went downstairs to the restaurant and it was there that Graham made her smile for the first time. Incredible!!

Well, our princess is sleeping now (and sucking her thumb). I laid her in her crib and within a few minutes she was sound asleep. Actually, sleep sounds pretty good to me right now too!

What I have been waiting to do!
