We visited the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square today. The
histories of both sites are just fascinating and full of
turmoil.
Tiananmen Square is now a place where people fly kites quite
often, and we saw some colorful ones. It draws large crowds and
everybody wanted their photo taken in front of the iconic Mao
portrait.
The Forbidden City was full of ornate buildings with colorful
ceilings and intricate doorways, a huge wall with carved
serpents and many gem, jade and coral displays. It also, sadly,
housed a Starbucks. I enjoyed a red bean popsicle along our
journey. It was better than it sounds!
We had a blast visiting the local supermarket. We browsed the
huge potato chip section, with such flavors as fish, barbeque
rib, and crispy chicken drumstick (which Joe is eating right
now). We could spend a week just wandering around checking out
all the fun and unusual flavors.
We are now off to Chongqing! |
