We had some major highs today. Jia woke up completely happy.
She rolled around in her crib babbling and playing for a long
time. Jia then actually sat in her own high chair at breakfast
and Joe was able to go to the buffet without issue. After that
we put her in the Baby Bjorn on Joe (facing out – another
first!) and she was all smiles and laughs. We went to a Buddhist
temple and received a baby blessing from a monk there. We did
some shopping and she entertained everyone.
The one rough spot during the day was after our guide kept
speaking to her in Chinese and demanding her attention using the
nickname the foster family used. We got back to the room and Jia
was very upset and frantically clung Joe for a long time. We
were worried that it was a setback. We had tried to have her
take a nap but her poor little lungs needed a break so we had
some play time with her instead. She then became the cheeriest
baby around. She laughed for hours.
We decided to try going to dinner for the first time since we
got her. It was a huge success. She bounced along to the music
and had a grand time. We were even able to get a bit more
shopping in later.
We still need to cut her nails. We’re so relieved and exhausted
by the time she falls asleep that we’re too afraid that if we do
it we’ll wake her up. But we both now have more scratches on our
faces so we may attempt it tonight.
I’ve been frustrated with our camera speed because every time
Jia looks up and smiles I end up with a shot of her looking away
because it’s too slow. Today I was finally able to get some good
ones. |
