Well, we were actually able to get Jia to smile and
even laugh a few times last night (beneath the pacifier, of
course). She slept really well too (not that we slept much
though being nervous parents). When she woke up, it seemed like
she said, “oh no, not you two again!”
She ate a sizable breakfast of congee and steamed egg. They
serve it every morning here so we’re in luck. We’re still trying
to figure out the formula thing. She refuses to take a bottle
and isn’t that great with a sippy cup or regular cup, but I’m
sure we’ll work it out.
Jia’s still exercising her vocal cords quite regularly. We’re
glad we brought ear plugs! She has also mastered the art of
shaking her head to say “no.” You’ll notice that Joe is holding
her in all the photos. She decided this morning that she’s a
daddy’s girl as they say, so Joe is it for now. According to our
guide, 80% of the babies here are daddy’s girls. This means that
Joe gets the benefit of all the cuddling, and all the screaming.
Thankfully she’s a good napper!
We finalized her adoption today with the local Civil Affairs
office and we may visit her welfare institute tomorrow. |
