We visited the Three Gorges Dam today. The size of the project
is nearly incomprehensible. It costs a total of $25 billion
dollars. It will provide about 10% of China’s power. Thousands
of people have already been forced to move to higher ground.
Some supposedly like their new places to live, others do not.
The apartment buildings that they are constructing are very
similar in style. There is barely any difference between them.
We made our way into the eastern section of the Xiling Gorge. We
are finally seeing some blue sky. I enjoyed a chrysanthemum tea
from the bar at the bow of the ship while we moved through the
gorge. It was packed full of flowers!
We were told that we will not be cruising to Wuhan. We instead
need to board a bus in Yichang and then take a four-hour bus
ride there. In any event, we have really enjoyed our trip so far
and have seen everything we wanted to see. |
