January 2007 Update

In January, Zoe and Mommy traveled to Palm Desert, California to spend 9 days with Granmommy, Grandaddy, Aunt Cathy, Uncle Rob, Aunt Melinda, Jack, Nick, Sydney, and Charley. Rob stayed home and began his second semester at FSU. Zoe had a blast playing with her cousins! She and Sydney were quite a pair! They would giggle and play for hours! They made crowns and purses with their Aunt Cathy. And with all her cousins, Zoe played outside, went swimming (and down the water slide for the very first time), danced, colored, painted, and played with bubbles. It was a blast! By the time her cousins left, Zoe had returned to taking naps (a habit she gave up over a year ago). I think she was exhausted from all the action!

It was wonderful to come home and see Daddy once again! We missed him almost as much as he missed us! I just have to share that Zoe found a rock in California that she wanted to give to Daddy. She carried that sucker around for days and it was the first thing she gave him when he got off the plane. Too sweet!

I woke up early one morning during our visit in the desert and had a revelation. We’ve thought all along that we would name our second daughter Alexis Marie. My Grandmother, my mother, and I all share the middle name Marie so it was very special. But the revelation that came to me was that her middle name was NOT Marie. Rather, she should be named Alexis Catherine, after my dear sister Cathy. As soon as it was late enough, I called Rob and asked how he felt about this idea. He LOVED it and agreed that it felt right. I was just thrilled with the realization of our daughter’s name and was so excited as I shared the news with my family! Cathy was truly touched and held me close after I asked if she would be our daughter’s namesake. So we are officially re-announcing our daughter’s name in 2007 … she will be Alexis Catherine and we’ll keep her Chinese name as a second middle name. Isn’t that simply a beautiful name for our beautiful child?

On the adoption front … nothing … nada … February is STILL in review (since the beginning of November) and it now almost feels comical how long it is taking to move onto the next step. Our only consolation is that this WILL happen. We just wish we knew when!
