October 2006 Update

October in Tallahassee is BEAUTIFUL! We are beyond the HOT weather and into the temperate days of autumn. And by temperate we mean a high of 70’s and 80’s. A far cry from last year where it was much crisper by this time in Minnesota.

This month we celebrated Zoe’s second anniversary of Gotcha Day (when she met Susan), her birthday, and her Forever Family Day (when she met her Daddy for the first time). We tried potty training for a day and failed miserably. We ended up with a hysterical three year old who held her urine for more than 6 hours and a very tired Mommy. Needless to say, potty training has returned to the back burner for a while.

Zoe’s Granmommy came down to help celebrate her third birthday and that was a really special day! She attended playgroup where she shared the pink cupcakes she had helped to decorate, and she scared Granmommy more than once with her dare devil climbing techniques on the play equipment. Her birthday evening was filled with lots of presents and a favorite meal of McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets.

Zoe rode a pony once, she tried to ride a horse but the sheer size of it got the better of her, AND she took 2 different hayrides with her friend Mary Kate. Our family participated in a Trick-or-Trot 5K race. Zoe won first place for her costume (she was Mini-Zoe) and Rob came in last place walking (he decided to keep an elderly gentleman company who was walking alone at the back end of the race).

Zoe’s growing by leaps and bounds and asks about her sister Lexi daily. She’s fine with the extended wait and I think for her sake, the older she is when Lexi comes home, the better.

As of October 31, we will have waited 256 days since we were logged into CCAA. Surprisingly, the time seems to be flying. It seems like every time I turn around we are a week closer to bringing our daughter home and I wonder where the time went! It feels unreal when I look at that number … 256. Zoe was home by this time when we adopted her (we received our referral at five and a half months). But, then again, we are 256 days closer to bringing our little Lexi home.

Celebrating a birthday dinner at McDonalds.

Opening presents with her Mini-Zoe ears and gloves.

Having a naked tea party with Granmommy
(notice the lack of pants on Zoe).

Oops ... the skirt was a bit too big!

Brave girl on a pony

Mini-Zoe won first place for the best costume!
