April 2007 Update
Right about this time last year we announced that we were moving
to Florida. Guess what!?! We’re moving again! This time Rob’s
job is taking our family to Buffalo, NY. And thankfully, we’ll
be there longer than 11 months.
Rob has been hired for a post-doctoral fellowship affiliated
with the State University of New York in Buffalo. He’ll be doing
work specifically in Medical Ontology, which is related to his
specialization in Philosophy of Biology. It’s a research
position, so he won’t be teaching for the next few years; but he
will be publishing and giving workshops to medical professionals
in the field. He is incredibly excited about this important work
he’ll be doing, as it’s a very practical field. His work will
lead to helping doctors save lives and improve patient care. It
doesn’t get much more important than that!
Last month we took a trip to Buffalo as a family. While Rob went
through interviews and training, Susan and Zoe looked for a
place to live. We want to be sure he’ll be going into this field
permanently before buying, so we were looking at rental
properties. We explored the town with Terri, our realtor, and
saw some terrific homes and townhouses for rent. After living a
year in an apartment, we’ve decided we do not want to continue
apartment life. We want a yard for the girls to play in. Stay
tuned for next month for more about this. We’re still working on
our housing and hope to have it ironed out soon.
The HUGE news that happened in the month of April is that Rob
overcame his phobia of flying!!!!! He flew to Buffalo and then
later in the month, he flew to Chicago. The trip to Chicago was
interesting as his first plane had mechanical difficulties so he
was an hour and a half delayed, and he missed his connecting
flight. The new connection was cancelled, and he finally arrived
in Chicago over 12 hours later than originally scheduled. All of
this was made possible through Happy-Pill-Number-One (Lorazepam)
and the occasional dose of Happy-Pill-Number-Two (Clonapin).
He’s so excited to have overcome this debilitating fear and is
scheduled for a flight to a conference for his new job in May.
On the adoption front progress is being made. China Center for
Adoption Affairs has referred families that were logged in
through November 1, 2005 putting us 108 LIDs from our own
referral. Boy will I be excited when we are less than 100 LIDs
away! We updated our 171H this past month so all of our
paperwork is now good through our move when we’ll have to do a
new addendum to our home study. If I had to place a bet at this
point, I’d say we will get Lexi’s referral in early spring of
2008. Let’s hope it’s a lot sooner! |
