June 2008
Update
Well, the month of June has literally flown by!!! Zoe finished
her first year of preschool and performed on the stage – not
once, but twice. She got to be a princess for a day and partook
in the girliest pillow fight ever in the history of the world!
(The point of the “fight” between Mia and Zoe was that one was
supposed to knock the other off a pole they were both seated
upon, but they were both ridiculously gentle in “hitting” the
other – think more along the lines of gentle taps cushioned with
pillows – LOL!!!) When we went on a fishing excursion with our
local Asian Connections group, we discovered our girl is NOT
afraid to touch a worm, she’s not very patient when waiting for
a fish to bite, and she experienced her very first rowboat ride.
We played in the sprinkler, rode bikes, read books, and had
friends over to play … and that was all in the first week of
summer vacation!!! Rob got a tick, too… can you say, DRAMATIC!?!
We also made an interesting discovery this month. Zoe will,
indeed, eat a hot dog if you peel the skin off. Can you
imagine!?!
And, for over a year, I have been saying to myself that Lexi’s
adoption is about a year away. But all of the sudden, in the
last few weeks, we have come to realize that we are probably
between three and five months from a referral!!! HOLY COW!!! Zoe,
Rob, and I have all come to the realization that Lexi is alive
and spending her days somewhere in China! She is breathing the
same air and living under the same moon as we do. Each morning
she wakes up and needs a bottle. She cries and needs her diaper
changed. Perhaps she is able to reach out and touch the hand of
the baby in the crib next to hers at naptime. Hopefully she is
well fed, laughing often, and safe. Zoe prays daily that Lexi
has someone to love her and take care of her. I pray she knows
the gentle touch of a loving caretaker as she lives out each of
her days in China. All our hearts now beat in unison with the
child who is half a world away. It won’t be much longer now … |
