May 2007 Update

In May Zoe made a huge leap in progress! Toward the beginning of the month I had the ingenious idea of bribing her to poop on the potty. So our family took a trip to Target and visited the My Little Pony isle in the toy section. We explained to Zoe that as soon as she went poop on the potty, she could pick out a pony … any pony she wanted. Well, she asked to look at one fairy pony with wings. She studied the pony and held it close to her heart for a good 10 minutes. When I told her it was time to put it back on the shelf, she did without a fuss. As we walked away from it, she said, “Okay I go poop on the potty now.” I told her she would wait until we got home. She replied, “Mommy, let’s go now.” So we did. We paid for our other items and drove straight home. That child walked directly to the bathroom, pulled down her pants, sat on the potty, and POOPED!!! It shocked me!!! Here I was all worried about putting too much pressure on her. Every time I put her on the potty to poop in the past, she would hold it for up to a day. All she needed was the right motivation (I’ll have to remember that with Lexi). Well, after we all danced with joy and ate celebratory M&Ms, Zoe and Daddy went back to Target to pick out a pony. Of course, she loved spending that special time just the two of them and adores the winged pony she picked out. And would you believe she’s been totally potty trained since then!?! Such a big girl!

For Mother’s Day Zoe decided she wanted to bake me a cake. And those of us who know Rob and me, well you must realize that idea came straight from her. We’re not big bakers in our house. I actually think she got the idea from a Mother’s Day Dora episode. So one morning Zoe and Daddy got up early, went to the grocery store, and picked out my favorite: yellow cake with chocolate frosting. I enjoyed every moment of watching the events unfold as they poured stirred, and blended the batter. Zoe was so darned proud of her accomplishment! And that cake was really yummy, too!

We took a trip to see Great-Gran and Aunt Narf and Zoe finished up her Mommy and me Critter classes. We’ve been making the most of the beautiful weather and spending hours at a time outdoors. Too fun!

We’ve started packing up boxes for our big move. The pictures are off the walls and clothing we won’t need for the summer is packed away. I can’t believe we’ll be on our way in less than a month. Holy cow!!! And would you believe Lexi will have had three nurseries before even coming home? Surly she’ll sleep in the one we set up in Buffalo sooner rather than later.

Nothing new to report on the adoption front. But I do want to share that every night before going to bed, Zoe says a prayer for her birthmother, her birthfather, and Lexi. She believes Lexi is born and at this point I think she may be right. And Lexi needs all our prayers as she waits to come home. The life she is leading right now is most likely less than ideal, and she needs a strong heart and soul to make it through everything she is experiencing or not experiencing each day. Please pray that she feels the gentle touch of a loving nanny (called an ayi) during this difficult time in her little life.

Baking a cake for Mommy!

Mission accomplished!
