June 2006 Update

Well, June will be over before we know it! We are packing things up that are not going to Tallahassee with us and using the shed in the yard to store things for the year. We’ve contracted the movers and found a place to live.

We were going to drive to Tallahassee next week but decided that would be too many hours for Zoe in the car. So we’ve applied to live in a brand new apartment complex. The application was over 14 pages long if you can believe that. But the complex seems perfect for us and since it’s new, we are comfortable renting site unseen. It’s a gated community, has a zero depth entry pool, a playground, a bike trail, and it is right next to a state park. In addition, there are sidewalks outside the complex so Zoe and I can continue to take our daily walks next year. It’s called The Lakes at San Marcos, and I’m thrilled we’ve chosen to live there. Now just say a prayer our application is accepted. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be, but I’ll feel better once we’ve heard back from them.

On Monday we head out of town for our vacation. We’ll go to Kansas City for a few days but won’t see my parents. They are actually out in California caring for Zoe’s cousins. My brother and his wife are presently in Ethiopia adopting their daughter … very exciting time for our family! While in KC we will have dinner with some fellow adoptive families that I have befriended online and Zoe will get to visit with Grammy Sally. Next we will head to St. Louis where we will visit with old friends and Rob will do some work with his SLU colleagues. I’ll also have my sixth … yes, I said sixth anniversary oncology appointment! That’s an amazing accomplishment and I’m thrilled to move that much farther away from my cancer experience. The day of my appointment, Zoe will stay with Miss Joyce, the wonderful woman that took such good care of her last year when I was still teaching. On the final leg of our trip we will go to Chicago. Originally we were going to go from St. Louis to Tallahassee and then to Chicago. But all that had to be done in five days total and it seemed like an insane proposal when we checked out MapQuest. So, we are going straight to Chicago instead. Pshew! In Chicago we plan to see Zoe’s godfather, Wally, Rob’s family, and Susan’s sister and her husband. All in all, it should be a fun vacation!

About Zoe, she is talking more and more. Her signing is waning as she replaces it with spoken words. She LOVES the “be-poo” as she refers to it (big pool) and plays daily with her friend “Eeyn” (Aidan). She was so excited to see “Pa-eena” (Christina) last week. She can now say her name “Oe Een AiYi Op” and knows she was born in “Angdon, Ina”. And as always, she talks daily to her “Ommy” (Grandmommy) on the telephone. Her voice is so sweet and she’s really proud of all her talking!

Not much to share on the adoption front this month except that the wait continues to get longer. Rather than stress about it, we are continuing to talk to Zoe about her mei mei and pray for Lexi and her birth family. Zoe knows Lexi is a baby whom she calls “Lala” and that she is in “Ina” right now. She’s going to be a really terrific big sister!

Our cutie-patootie!

Reading a good book with Daddy Rob.

Our cool kiddo swingin' at the "pok" (park).

At the park steering a "boo" (boat).
